Children’s use of screens is an obvious part of our modern society. Smartphones, tablets and computers provide a source of play, information and lots of possibilities. The majority of all children actually spend a total of 1-3 hours in front of a screen every day. As a parent, you therefore have an important role to guide both when it comes to the content and amount of screen time. In order to determine what is right, you need to get a closer look at the situation by actively take part of their world and use tools when needed. How do you manage screen time in your family?

How present the parents should be depends on the age of the child and the difference is obvious if the child is 5, 12 or 17 years old. But no matter how old they are, we are needed, and our children are entitled to an adult’s presence.

BE WARY OF

Screen time before bedtime. It reduces sleep quality and increases the time of falling asleep.
When the screens steal time from other creative play and social interaction.
When the child has big difficulty leaving the screen.
When the use leads to excessive sedentary.
